Getting started

Sign up or apply

How to join HILLS Music: apply on hillsmusic.com, or sign up as a label when self sign-up is open, confirm your email and start releasing.

Updated

There are two ways to start with HILLS Music. Which one you see depends on what we have open at the time: the Apply buttons on hillsmusic.com take you to the right one.

Apply

The application form on hillsmusic.com/apply is for every kind of business: record labels, distributors and aggregators, artist managers, publishers, catalog owners, independent artists and companies that want to integrate by API.

  1. Fill in the form: who you are, your company, your catalog size and your monthly royalties, and links to your profiles or website.
  2. Submit it. You get an email confirming we’ve received it.
  3. We reply by email within 1–3 business days. We talk through your catalog and what you need, and agree terms together.
  4. Once the agreement is in place, we create your account. You get an invitation email with a link to set your password (valid for 7 days).
  5. Sign in at app.hillsmusic.com and set up an authenticator app or a passkey.

Use a work email that receives mail. The form checks that the email’s domain accepts mail and that the links you give are real profile or website links.

Sign up as a label

When self sign-up is open, a label can create its own account on the sign-up page (the Apply buttons on hillsmusic.com lead there) without waiting for an application. If sign-up is closed, the page says so and links to the application form instead.

  1. Enter your name, your label’s name (not a link), your work email and your country.
  2. Choose a password: at least 8 characters, with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter and a number.
  3. Agree to the terms and choose Create account.
  4. Check your email for Confirm your email to start with HILLS and choose Confirm my email. The link works once and expires after 24 hours. Nothing there? Check your spam folder, or use Use a different email to start again.
  5. When the page says Email confirmed, your label account is ready and you’re signed in.

Your account is a direct label: HILLS Music distributes your releases and pays you, on our standard agreement for self sign-ups. See Splits and payouts.

What happens next

Whichever way you joined, these are good first steps:

  1. Add your bank account under Settings → Payouts, so it can be checked before your first payout.
  2. Set up two-factor sign-in under Settings → Security. You’ll need it before you can add a team.
  3. Submit your first release, or move your catalog from your current distributor.
  4. Invite people to help you: see Label teams and artist sign-ins.

If you need something a direct label account doesn’t include, such as running your own brand for other artists, ask us from Live support. We can move your account to a partner plan later without losing anything.

Common questions

How long is the email confirmation link valid?
24 hours, and it works once. If it has expired, sign up again with the same email.
How soon do you answer an application?
We reply by email within 1–3 business days, then talk through your catalog and needs and agree terms together.
I already have an account. What happens if I sign up again?
Nothing is created. We send an email to that address saying it already has a HILLS account, with a sign-in link and a way to reset your password.
